How To Get From Bali To Nusa Penida (Fast Boat Guide)

Nusa Penida sits just south-east of Bali, and the only practical way to get there is by boat. The good news: the crossing from Sanur takes about 45 minutes and boats run every day. Here is everything you need to know before you go.

Where Do Boats To Nusa Penida Leave From?

Almost all fast boats leave from Sanur on Bali’s east coast. From Kuta or Seminyak it’s around 30–60 minutes by car, depending on traffic, so early pickups are normal. Boats arrive at Toya Pakeh or Banjar Nyuh harbour on the north side of Nusa Penida.

What To Expect At Sanur Harbour

  • There is no pier: you wade a few steps through shallow water to board. Wear sandals and roll up your trousers.
  • Keep your phone and passport in a dry bag.
  • The crossing can be bumpy in the afternoon. Sit at the back if you get seasick and take a tablet beforehand.
